Newmarket Memorial Gardens

Newmarket Memorial Gardens

Set in the heart of Newmarket just off the High Street behind the Town Hall, the Memorial Gardens has a long history of use as a public park. Once a busy community space it had lost its appeal due to broken play equipment and a water splash pad which had been out of order for a long while.

The design brief was to create an inclusive multi-use community space to include water play, play equipment and gardens with respectful treatment to the site's historical context. We worked with a play equipment manufacturer to design and build bespoke castle themed play equipment with signage to encourage pretend play. A new water play area was also built and designed to include a range of jets and splash pads on a wetpour surface with set boulders.

A bespoke tactile mural was also commissioned as part of the project which included a range of settings for sound activation and touch. A grassed amphitheatre was built with site excavations, shrub and tree planting created a more inviting space and a zip wire and basket swing provided further play equipment to suit a wide age and ability range.
