15 Forest Lane Well-being Garden

In July 2022 a new Well-being and Sensory Garden was opened at a mental health facility for young people at 15 Forest Lane, Radlett, run by the Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

A number of distinct areas were created with an emphasis on providing therapeutic spaces for creative activities, gardening or simply as a place to relax.

There is the Kitchen Garden, with raised beds and a small greenhouse, where seasonal herbs and vegetables are grown and used in the on-site kitchen as part of cooking therapy and a large pergola in the Welcome Garden where groups can take part in outside art therapy.

The Orchard offers a fresh open place to relax, play and run in and a circular open grassed space laid with stones forming the shape of a labyrinth allows for meditative walking. A perennial Meadow with tactile boulders sits beneath the canopies of some large trees and attracts wildlife. Generous beds planted with a mix of herbaceous perennials and shrubs offer forever changing seasonal interest and sensory qualities. Tucked away amongst the trees is the Retreat which is a private space for 1:1 meetings or small group or family sessions.
